Marcos René Maidana was world champion in two divisions; Super Lightweight and Welterweight. He was known for his tremendous punching power and his highly exciting fighting style during his 10 year professional career from 2004 to 2014.

Maidana fought his first 18 fights in his hometown of Argentina, racking up an impressive 18 knockout win streak. He fought his 19th bout in Germany, the first time he’s fought out of Argentina. Maidana added six more wins to rack up a record of 25-0 all via knockouts. In his first title bout for the WBA Super Lightweight title, Maidana lost by a controversial SD against Andreas Kotelnik in Kotelnik’s hometown in Germany.

After his first loss he made his United States debut against Victor Ortiz, this time for the interim WBA Super Lightweight title. Maidana stops Ortiz in a competitive action filled bout to win his first world title. Maidana racked up 3 more wins before losing to Amir Khan, in yet another competitive bout which was named Fight of the Year 2010 by Ring Magazine.

In 2011, Maidana fought the Mexican legend Erik Morales for the interim WBA Super Lightweight title (once again), winning a close MD. Maidana would go 4-1 in his next 5 fights before winning his second world divisional title by outclassing Adrien “The Problem” Broner in arguably his best performance. Maidana scored two knockdowns en route to a dominant UD win.

Maidana was a 5-1 betting underdog in the fight thus his victory was named Upset of the Year 2013 by Ring Magazine. Maidana would fight his two biggest career fights next against Floyd Mayweather Jr in May and September of 2014. Maidana lost both bouts by decision but was praised for giving the undefeated Mayweather two very competitive bouts.

After a 2 year career hiatus, Maidana have finally confirmed his retirement amid various speculations. His final record stands at 35(31)-5.

Notable wins; Jesús Soto Karass, Érik Morales, DeMarcus Corley, Victor Cayo, Victor Ortiz, Adrien Broner.

Notable losses; Andreas Kotelnik, Devon Alexander, Amir Khan, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (2x).

This is just a very simple compilation of some of Maidana’s best knockouts. I will consider doing highlights of some of Maidana’s fights in future.
