Grand Canyon Ghost Town: Hermit Camp
A century ago if one wanted to take a mule ride to the bottom of Grand Canyon and overnight with all the creature comforts normally found at Lodges elsewhere there was only one option: Hermit Camp. This short-lived facility was unlike anything else at the time, as was the trail built by the Santa Fe Railroad to ferry its passengers-turned-tourists to this unique experience. Today the Hermit Trail resembles little of its former self, and the Hermit Camp lies in ruins. But if one looks carefully among the crumbling walls of this ghost town, they can piece together a story seldom told.
