How I consumed the book: Audible
Short Recap: This author has taken some common principles and ideas and put them in one book to help those with significant focus issues. The author talks about diagnosing problems or threats to your automatic attention (reflex) and intentional attention (conscious). There is value in that and she suggests a distraction log as well as goal setting.
The author talked about how motivation wears off which was an important take away. Motivation is about a feeling and when that feeling fades so to can our will. However, setting goals can keep us on track even when the initial excitement ends. The book also talks about preparing your body, emotions and your environment to be prepared for focus.
Application to Business: This book like many today talk about conserving energy and the fact that we cannot work at a high level all day. When it comes to applying this to business I believe that to be a valuable take way. Plan your day according to how your body and mind react so that you can be more effective.
Application to Life: We all find distraction in different ways and I see this book being valuable to teach someone that does not yet have any focus skills, such as kids or teenagers. For the rest of us, its nothing new or groundbreaking.
Recommendation: Not Worth Read (Unless you need have major focus issues and need a reminder of the basics)
