VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In this video I paint a deep forest and then place a rustic Chapel right in the center. I did this for my mom, who took a pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy, and loves religious buildings like this.
I had some difficult moments completing this painting, namely with the stonework and the timbers. The stonework was not hard as far as technique goes, but took much longer than I expected (nearly four hours). Having said that, I love how it turned out and feel like it was worth it. The timbers were difficult for me because I did not plan them, so when I went to do them my lines were off and this made achieving proper perspective a challenge. All in all, however, I think those turned out pretty well, too.
There's not a whole lot of "tutoring" in this tutorial, because I felt like once I started a segment it is pretty much just a matter of watching what I did, and if it helps you, then you can mimic it in your work. There is one section where I do give a brief, real-time spoken tutorial about the phenomenon of perspective. Otherwise, it was a highly detailed and time-intensive painting that is hopefully very relaxing to watch. To help toward that end, I think I chose some really nice music from the YouTube audio library to accompany the film.
This painting was done with oil on an 18" X 24" pre-stretched canvas. The total time to complete this was approximately 13 hours.
As always, thank you for watching. Happy painting!
