Ex-Blue Eagles coach Baldwin appears before CIDG to face probe into players’ deaths

Resigned Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin finally appears before CIDG investigators. He attended a fact-finding hearing looking into the deaths of two of his players. Baldwin headed the team-building activity in Aurora where players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili drowned on June 8. Previously, he has not responded to summonses by the CIDG and the NBI. His lawyer claimed Baldwin was then “not in a good condition to appear.” Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier warned Baldwin that he could be cited for contempt should he fail to attend the hearing again.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the release of 24 Filipinos who have been detained in Siberia. This was announced by President Marcos. The Filipinos have been in detention for nine months in the Russian city of Irkutsk over immigration issues. Marcos thanked Putin and the Russian government for their assistance and cooperation in the release of the Filipinos.

Diesel and gasoline prices are expected to drop next week. Local oil industry sources say diesel prices are expected to decrease by around P7.50 to P9.50 per liter. Gasoline prices, meanwhile, are expected to decline by about P3 to P5 per liter. Sources say the price adjustments was due to the global market’s reaction to the interim peace deal signed between US and Iran.

Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala scores a major upset at the Berlin Open. She defeated world number two Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan to reach the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Score was 7-5, 6-4. Rybakina is a former Wimbledon champion. Eala is currently ranked 35th. She faces Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the next round.
