With only 58 days to go until we should be totally free of the E.U., I had thought all this Brexitension nonsense was over.

But no, a new petition has emerged pushing for the Brexit Implementation Period, or transition phase, to be extended.

The petition by Bob Downie says:

"Petition To Seek a 1 year Extension to the Brexit Transition Period & a Second Referendum

"To seek a 1 year extension to the Brexit Transition Period so that negotiations on the future EU-UK relationship can be concluded and a referendum conducted. The U.K. public can assent or reject the terms. A rejection would mean that the Government would commit to seeking re-entry to the E.U.

"During the 1 year extension, the U.K. Government should conclude negotiations and then conduct a second referendum when the U.K. public can assent or reject the agreed terms. Only by conducting a second referendum on any agreed UK-EU relationship can the U.K. public truly have its say.

"A rejection of the agreed future trading relationship would mean that the U.K. Government must commit to seeking a further extension(s) of the transition period, followed by negotiation on re-entry to the E.U."

So, We'd be stuck under E.U. control with no say for another year. All while negotiating a trade deal with Brussels where the Eurocrats know all they need to do is offer an awful trade deal and the U.K. would be forced into negotiating its way back into full membership.

Rejoiner thinking through and through - they always aim to give the E.U. the upper hand in any encounter.

When I last looked this petition had about 12.000 signatures, so is due an answer from the Government.

And if it gets 100,000, then it would normally be debated in parliament.

So, what the signatories to this petition want to happen is; for the Government, legislature and the whole civil service machine to be diverted away from attending to the pandemic in order to satisfy their wet-dream of the U.K. back in the E.U.

They want the rest of the year of U.K. political effort to be used up in renegotiating the Withdrawal Agreement Treaty.

They want the whole E.U. and U.K. budgets to be re-written to take account of the U.K. continuing in its state of legal and economic vassalage to Brussels.

They want A referendum to be set up within a year to facilitate a deal that may or may not be forthcoming.

And because the E.U. would never give the U.K. a favourable deal under such an arrangement, these Rejoiners want the Government to spend possibly years negotiating a re-entry.

A re-entry that would require U.K. membership of the Eurozone, agreement to be inside the Schengen Zone, putting all our armed and security forces under E.U. Commission control, while ensuring that our fishing waters are stripped of all life.

Now I have a family-friendly word for that - Barking!

But it has gained the inevitable support from the pro-EU lobby.

And they are all it seems of the opinion that this country cannot deal in tandem with Brexit trade negotiations and sorting the pandemic.

But they do believe the country can deal concurrently with Brexit trade negotiations, renegotiating the Withdrawal Agreement, sorting out a Referendum and preparing to negotiate E.U. re-entry including a change of currency - all while dealing with a pandemic that the government is not letting go of.

As I said - Barking.

But what you won't hear, is that the U.K. has agreed over 50 rollover trade deals around the world to keep business flowing and one with Japan that is better than the one the E.U. negotiated.

And we've just recently agreed another trade deal, this one with Kenya. Something that will also help strengthen our Commonwealth ties.

Then there's the advanced talks we have with the U.S.

Oh yes, that train has been steaming along quite nicely.

Liz Truss, the International Trade Secretary, and Lord Grimstone the Minister for Investment, made a statement in their respective houses on the deal yesterday saying:

#BrexitImplementationPeriod

#BrexitTransitionPhase
