Lake Bianco (Lago Bianco) is a short distance away from Morteratsch, easily accessible by train. The beautiful turquoise blue waters of the lake and the breathtaking beauty of Peak Palü (Piz Palü) provide mesmerizing opportunities for a great lakeside picnic and day out. Adults can sit back and relax taking in the tranquil views, while kids enjoy tossing stones in the water.

The tranquil turquoise lake gets its characteristic color from the unsettled grains of minerals generated by the grinding action of the melting glaciers. These stay suspended in the water and absorb the lower spectrum (violet/indigo) from the light, while the water absorbs the higher spectrum, reflecting only the blues and greens giving it the beautiful turquoise color we see in the lake waters.
