A-level Maths Parents - end of Year 12 mocks matter more than what your child may think.

Many Edexcel A-level Maths students just think “Year 12 doesn’t matter too much, I’ll just work harder in Year 13”…

But the truth is this:

1️⃣ The Year 12 material is the foundation for the Year 13 material. Poor Year 12 foundations means the Year 13 material becomes totally overwhelming

2️⃣ The jump in difficulty between the Year 12 content and the Year 13 content is bigger than what students anticipate

3️⃣ Many schools use - or at least overwhelmingly consider - the end of Year 12 mock results when deciding predicted grades for UCAS applications

Year 12 students should be practicing AS papers (which can be found on Physics & Maths Tutor) for their revision. Plus targeted practice on their weaknesses. These exams should be taken seriously.

However, if your child doesn’t perform as well as expected in the mocks - not all hope is lost. They will just need to catch up and fill in the gaps of Year 12 material over the summer.
