'Iceland Volcano Eruption Site Hastily EVACUATED as New Fissure Erupts'

A new fissure has begun spurting lava and ash, a kilometre from the original eruption site at Iceland's Fagradalsfjall volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Hundreds of tourists were swiftly evacuated to safety after the new cracks were spotted by a sightseeing helicopter.

Scientists are now investigating the 500m river of lava to determine gas and heat levels before authorities allow tourists to return to the site.

Around 30,000 people have already made the trip to see the volcano erupt for the first time in 6,000 years.
