Quick Permaculture Tip - Protect your Trees from Termite

We are often asked why we paint out tree trunks with a white paiknow that termite is often thought of to be.a pest. The truth is that the termite is a soil builder and an essential part of our permaculture ecosystem. However, in some situations, when termite does not have enough to eat in the soil, it can start attacking the bark of your trees. As a preventive, we paint our trees with lime, even though in our permaculture garden, there is sufficient food for our soil builders in the form of mulch. This is done once a year, in autumn, when the trees are most prone to termite attack, as the rains have passed and the amount of biomass available on the ground is depleting.

Another benefit of lime paint on trees is that it makes the garden look spruced up and smart!
