Introduction to International Relations - The Changing Context of International Security

Lecture 10: International Relations in the Post-Cold War World: Global Integration or Global Inequality?

Part I: Emerging International Issues after 1992

This video looks at the international system in the early 1990s, and notes new challenges to international security and stability from collapsing states like the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, the outbreak of regional wars in the Balkans and the Caucasus, and the realignment of hegemonic power first to the United States as the sole global superpower, but later to rising regional powers around the world.

We also look at emerging security dilemmas from breakaway territories like Nagorno Karabakh, Chechnya, and Kosovo.
