Difficult IV in Obese Patients - Crash course with Dr. Hadzic
In obese patients, IV access is often difficult and time-consuming. The veins on the dorsum of the hand and the deep brachial vein may be neither visible nor palpable in the obese patient. Some practitioners shrug off any other means but using ultrasound. However, ultrasound-guided IV access requires time for setup, and considerable experience and it is also not fail safe. In this video Dr Hadzic shares tips on how to use chest veins, tributaries to the cephalic vein for an emergency intravenous access during surgery.
