Pakistan is stepping up efforts to ensure the US and Iran prolong a ceasefire beyond its official expiry date next week to allow more time to negotiate a lasting peace deal.

The US and Iran are considering a two-week ceasefire extension, with neither side wanting to resume fighting, and are working to resolve contentious issues including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear and missile programs.

Market expectations of a formal end to the conflict have risen, with stock exchanges reversing wartime losses and hitting record highs, despite extensive damage to Gulf energy infrastructure and elevated oil prices.
