Does Clapton Suck?

Does Clapton Suck? No, Clapton doesn't suck.

He dropped on the Rolling Stone list from #2 to #35. Part of that was certainly because Rolling Stone opened it up to many more genres than rock and blues. But it's difficult to agree. Both Clapton's sound and play in the years from 1964 to 1970 totally changed the arc of rock guitar for 40 years and heavily influenced an immense number of players who were also influential (Eddie Van Halen, Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, etc.).

Clapton's play AND sound from the 1966 Beano album and the Fresh Cream album sound normal today because so many copied him. He was, along with Mike Bloomfield, the most important bridge between blues and rock and was one of the main drivers of the major change in music during that period and through the 1970s.

Okay, rant off!
