A new safe space for women opens its doors in Istanbul
The Women’s Solidarity Foundation (KADAV) opened the First Step Station, a safe space for women who are at risk of or exposed to violence to get away from perpetrators for a period of 72 hours. Opened in the Şişli area of Istanbul, the centre aims to provide a temporary safe space for women and their children who do not have immediate access to a shelter or protective services. The project is implemented with the support of the Şişli Municipality within the “Strong Civic Space for Gender Equality” project implemented by UN Women and funded by the European Union.
