Tattoos, Barbarians, & Barbarian Imagery in the Late Roman Army
The Late Roman Army has a stereotype surrounding it: it was barbarians who served, not the Romans. This leads to the so-called "barbarization theis", the idea that Rome's armies were weakened due to ever-increasing presence of non-Roman forces. But is this really the case?
