Duolingo has been receiving a lot of criticism lately, not only in the form of Duolingo memes, but also in claims that it is not an effective language learning tool. Today, I’m going to review Duolingo and explain why Duolingo is still the best beginner language learning app on the market. More importantly, we’ll go over some Duolingo tips and tricks so that you can learn the best methods for how to get fluent with Duolingo—no matter if you’re studying Spanish, French, German, Italian, or any other language!

For starters, Duolingo is completely free. They do offer Duolingo Premium, a paid version of the app, however in my experience it’s perfectly fine to stick to the free version of the app. This is because Duolingo CEO Luis Von Ahn founded the company with the goal of providing freely accessible education to all.

The next best thing about Duolingo is its gamification. The app was designed to mimic the look and feel of a mobile game, meaning that it’s actually really fun to use! Furthermore, the language learning app’s streak system encourages users to study their target language consistently, something that is crucial for getting fluent in a language with Duolingo.

To get the most out of Duolingo and achieve your language learning goals, it’s best to dedicate as much time as you can each day to your Duolingo lessons. If you follow Duolingo’s advertised time of 15 minutes, you’ll find language learning progress to be slow.

Additionally, there are lots of Duolingo features that most language learners are not aware of or don’t use. Duolingo Stories, for example, allow you to practice newly learned vocabulary words and develop reading skills. On the desktop version of Duolingo, users can deactivate the word bank and study the Tips section of each lesson to deepen their understanding.
