Surgical Advancements of the Maxilla and Mandible

3D animation visualizing the anatomy of the human skull and demonstrating advancements in surgery involving the mandible and maxilla. During this surgery, a reciprocating saw making axial cuts and a curved pterygoid chisel used in an inferior and medial direction are utilized detach the maxilla from the upper portion of the skull. The surgeon then used their thumbs to free the maxilla and advance it forward. The maxilla is stabilized with multiple fixation plates and screws. Next the reciprocating saw is used to perform bilateral split osteotomies on the lower mandible, it is then advanced forward and secured with multiple screws. Lastly, the reciprocating saw is utilized to detach the tip of the mandible, which is advanced forward and also secured with fixation hardware.
