Sierra Leone - Coup leader Major Koroma
(9 Jun 1997) T/I: 10:00:30
Major Johnny Koroma, leader of the coup in Sierra Leone, could
not find the words of peace 4,000 people in a Freetown stadium
had gathered to hear on Sunday (8/6).
Instead, a retired lieutenant-colonel, Andrew Koroma, spoke to
the crowd, telling them that the coup leader would "shortly
address the nation on results of the current diplomatic
overtures undertaken to stall off any military intervention" by
neighbouring African nations.
Meanwhile the general exodus from Freetown was continuing on
Sunday (8/6) for fear that Nigeria will step in to restore
Kabbah to power.

it is a problem that we have to solve internally."
SOT: Koroma cont': "that will not be an issue at all.. If
President Kabbah is to come back I think the situation will get
worse. So we don't think he himself would like to come back.
Because he would not like to see a beseiged city... so I don't
