The aye-aye finds hidden grubs by echolocation. This Madagascar lemur taps trees with its extra-long middle finger. One finger. Three times thinner than the others. It listens to the echoes bouncing back from the wood. Different densities make different sounds. Imagine that for a second. A hollow sound means empty space. A duller thud signals a grub wriggling inside. Then it bites. Gnaws. Extracts. That impossibly thin finger hooks the larva right out. And it is the only primate on Earth with this trick.
