US election: What happens after election night?
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted much of daily life, and the U.S. election was not immune. An unprecedented number of mail-in ballots has created uncertainty over how not only election night will play out but also the weeks ahead.
U.S. election results will start pouring in when polls in several states (including Florida) close at 7 p.m. ET. More polls will close each hour with the majority closing between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.
But ballots will be counted for weeks after Nov. 3 — final vote counts are never completed on election night. Here are some of the key post-election dates every U.S. election has to follow.
