Dovetail Log Cabin - Chinking the Cabin!

This has been a long time coming, but happy to be doing the chinking finally. Chinking in the name for the process of closing the gaps between the logs.

Although there are many options for what to use for chinking, I used a mix of three parts sand, one part Portland cement and a half part of hydrated lime.

After researching for many hours on options for chinking, I decided against synthetic chinking for several reasons. Synthetic chinking is expensive and less natural. I also wanted to get some experience working with cement/mortar.

Time will tell how the chinking holds up but I am happy so far with the results!

By far the most common comment or question I get on the channel has to do with the gaps between the logs.

Comments that come to mind include:

"Why the gaps?"
"Looks breezy"
"How do you keep the bugs out"
"Will be cold!"
"I would build it better than that"

And many, many more!
