It's a common question I get all the time from those who are first exposed to traditional log construction... and so in this video I share the basics about chinking... how it was originally installed and a brief summary of how we do it today. Later this year I will be putting together a detailed step-by-step process in how it is properly installed. Chinking is perhaps the most critical part in constructing a log home... one if done correctly will ensure a cabin will last for centuries, and one that if done poorly, will result in the loss of a cabin due to rot within a few short years.
