"Love for our neighbor is greater than fear:" Tucson rallies for Karla Toledo and immigrant families

After masked ICE agents arrested DACA recipient Karla Toledo on May 18, Tucson showed up. Neighbors, cyclists, veterans, city leaders, and immigrant rights advocates gathered at El Pueblo Neighborhood Center for a press conference and a community solidarity bike ride called La Rosa Ride — organized by FUGA (Familias Unidas Ganando Accesibilidad).
Toledo, a 31-year-old community organizer who has lived in Arizona since childhood, was released on bail May 22. At the event, she spoke about her detention experience and her desire to help those still being held — including organizing a Spanish-language book drive for immigrants in Arizona detention centers.
Tucson Vice Mayor Lane Santa Cruz addressed the crowd: "This ride is about showing the world that love for our neighbor is greater than fear of our neighbor."
Toledo has a court hearing June 3 at Tucson Federal Immigration Court.
