"I'm still under attack": Karla Toledo on relief and fear after her deportation case is dismissed
Karla Toledo — the Tucson DACA recipient arrested by masked ICE agents at her home on May 18 — learned Wednesday that her removal case has been dismissed by a Tucson immigration judge. But she and her attorney warn the fight is far from over.
Toledo's DACA status expires this July, and renewal applications across the country have stalled. Out of roughly 80 applications processed through one local immigration office over the last three months, only one has been approved.
"Yes, they closed this court case, but my DACA is still being processed," Toledo said in Spanish. "I check it every day, and nothing has happened. So, I'm still under attack either way — anything can happen."
Her attorney, Mo Goldman, cautioned that the case was dismissed without prejudice — meaning authorities could detain her again. He also raised concerns about a broader pattern of the government targeting people with legal protections like DACA and TPS, calling it "de-legalization."
Nearly 19,000 DACA recipients live in Arizona. Many are watching Karla's case — and worried they could be next.
