Well, that is no longer the case. If you’re on a mid-sized budget then the powerful, color-accurate, Wacom infused Acer Spin 5 may be the laptop for you.

Diving right into the build quality of this laptop, as I pull the Spin 5 out of the box I am greeted by an all-aluminum chassis, keyboard deck, and side panels making this laptop not only durable but incredibly thin and light.

Weighing in at 2.65 Lbs at barely over a half-inch thick (0.59 inches) I am drooling over the insane portability of this laptop. But how does a laptop this thin and light perform? Well, hold tight because later in the video we are going to dive into some of the tests.

What about the on the go capability of this laptop?

Acer Spin 5 Battery: 56 Wh: 7.25 Hours Web browsing / 5-6 hours Design and Video Editing

The Acer Spin 5 comes with a surprisingly wide variety of ports: PORTS RANT

Acer Spin 5 Ports:
x2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
x2 USB-C 3.1 (DisplayPort)
HDMI 2.0
Micro SD Slot
Mic/headphone combo

As I pull open the lid of the laptop, which does take two hands due to the strong magnet holding the screen closed, I am greeted by a bright, vibrant and color accurate 13.5 in 3x2 2k display behind Corning Gorilla Glass for an extra layer of protection to the laptop. The slim bezels are subtle making the vibrant screen stand out even more.

I must say I did not realize how much more roomy a 3:2 screen feels compared to a standard 16x9 aspect ratio until I was benchmarking the Acer spin 5 next to a Lenovo Flex 5. I have never considered getting a screen smaller than a 15 in, but after using this laptop for the past week and a half I must say I could see myself making this laptop my on the go workstation.

Concerning the screen capabilities, I am happy to say that it can reach a Color Gamut Range of 100% sRGB - 79% Adobe RGB - 80% DCI-P3 and has a screen max brightness of 415 nits.

The hinges are strong and secure offering a smooth open and close of the lid as well as only a slight bit of screen flex between them.

As far as the keypress is concerned they have done a great job providing a quiet smooth keypress that is just the right amount of softness and snap when typing.

Moving onto the trackpad Acer has equipped it with Windows Modern Touch Gestures, which work nicely, a strong click, and excellent touch sensitivity. To me, the trackpad is a very crucial component of a design laptop and this one is up to the challenge.

Now it is time to jump into one of the two most important considerations of this laptop. The 2 in 1 screen with the built-in pen. First, let’s start with the pen. The Spin 5 comes with the Acer Active Stylus. It is stored in the charging dock on the right side of the keyboard deck.

15 seconds of charging can give you 90 minutes of operating time. So basically if your pen goes dead all you need to do is plug it into the charging dock, jump up for a refresh on your coffee, and then get right back to work.

Now what makes this laptop truly special, especially at this price point, is the collaboration between Acer and Wacom to produce a screen/pen combination capable of achieving 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

This means that when using this laptop as a drawing tablet you’re able to achieve the same pressure sensitivity as Wacom's Intuos Creative Tablet (for reference I have linked the model I am referring to in the description below - https://geni.us/Intuos-Creative-Tablet ).

So basically you are carrying around a laptop that is powerful enough to handle all your design and drawing needs with the power to handle multitasking in the most popular Adobe Design Apps… Oh yeah, and it has solid color accuracy, lest we forget.

The model I am reviewing comes with:

Acer Spin 5
CPU: Intel 10th Gen Core i7-1065G7 (4 Cores 8 Threads)
GPU: Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512B NVMe SSD

If you’re looking for a 2 in 1 laptop built for creators through a partnership with Wacom, has excellent performance in the Adobe Design Suite, runs cool and quiet, oh and totes an all-aluminum thin and light chassis then the Acer Spin 5 is for you.
