TWO LAKES. ONE BITTERN

This nature documentary is a story about two coastal lakes in Latvia - lake Engure and lake Pape, about the history of their protection, the people around them and the signature bird of both areas, the great Bittern. The voice of bittern is a deep sound that resembles somebody who is blowing in a bottle. This sound can often be heard in the reedbeds surrounding both lakes, but the bird who makes it is rarely seen. Why is the bittern special? How is it's life in the reeds? What threatens him?

The documentary film was made in the framework of the project LIFE12NAT/LV/000118 "Restoration of Bittern habitats in two coastal lakes in Latvia".
