A partridge – Thracian Greek Collection

Description:
Dimitra Ketetzoudi sings a traditional "trapiʑkó traɣúð'" (table song) from Asproneri, a village of the Marides group in the Evros district. In the local tradition, these songs usually have a slow melody and free rhythm. They were sung during meals, at festivals and weddings. In this song, the partridge symbolizes the beautiful and proud young woman who denies the invitation of a man to come to him and sit on his lap because she understands that she will be kissed. Many traditional Greek songs praise the beauty and the behaviour of the partridge, which is identified with a decent and inaccessible woman. Hunting the partridge is a symbol of flirting and erotic conquest.
