Mi'kmaw Business Owner on Legal Basis of RCMP Raids and Sovereignty

Continuing from a protest held in front of the Moncton Regional Centre (414 Collishaw St, Moncton, New Brunswick), Cody Caplin addresses the legal mechanism used to justify the RCMP raids on Mi'kmaw-owned cannabis businesses. Specifically the application of the Secret Commissions Act, legislation Mr.Caplin argues was designed for hard drugs and organized crime, not legal cannabis. Mr.Caplin references Sections 25 and 35 of the Canadian Constitution, asserting that these provisions protect Indigenous rights and cannot be overridden by federal or provincial law. They state that as a sovereign Mi'kmaw nation, their community operates under its own laws and regulatory framework, and indicate their intention to reopen their business at the same location if the seized building is not returned within the expected 30-day window.
