As you head away from Hunter's Mountain towards Chéticamp Lake you pass through this area which was once the most bountiful moose hunting grounds in Unama'ki (Cape Breton). Now the land is scarred and logs litter the ground like twigs.

Mi'kmaq Rights Holders have halted further logging and construction on Hunter's Mountain to protect their traditional hunting grounds.

NOTICE FROM THE MICMAC RIGHTS EXECUTIVE
RE: FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR HUNTER’S MOUNTAIN CAMP

The Micmac Rights Association executive has decided to accept and transfer donations to the Mi’kmaw rights holders advocating for their rights on Hunter’s Mountain.

E-transfer donations may be sent to micmacrights@gmail.com

If the sender puts the words “Women’s Council” in their e-transfer note, the funds will be distributed to the women organizing and carrying out their responsibilities. The women in camp shall decide on how to spend and administer those funds at their meetings in accordance with Mi’kmaq custom and convention.

If the sender puts the words “Men’s Council” in their e-transfer note, the funds will be distributed to the men organizing and carrying out their responsibilities. The men in camp shall decide on how to spend and administer those funds at their meetings in accordance with Mi’kmaq custom and convention.

If the sender puts the words “Legal team” in their e-transfer note, the funds will be administered by the MRA Executive and distributed to the MRA legal team with the advice of MRA legal counsel Tuma Sakej.

If the sender puts the words “Media team” in their e-transfer note, the funds will be distributed to the MRA media team and will be administered by the MRA media team members and the MRA Executive.

If no e-transfer note is put in the donation, the financial donation will be divided equally between the four bodies above.

Anyone is of course free to choose to donate to any other individuals or organizations that they choose in ANY way in order to support the Mi’kmaq reclamation of Hunter’s Mountain.
