Catching up with Nikhil Hegde, owner of Smally’s Resto Cafe. Smally’s has the title of being India’s smallest cafe. But there is nothing small about their burgers or the rave reviews they have been getting since they opened their doors in 2014. They have a variety of influences in their cuisine ranging from Afro-Portuguese to Coastal Mangalorean. As Nikhil puts it, “Anything that goes inside a bun”.
Smally’s makes use of the entire range of LimeTray’s software to do everything from acquiring new customers, managing operations better and retaining their customers.
Helping Smally’s run better
Nikhil talks about the importance of building his own brand online. He also talks about the importance of being creative in his approach, given that India has a sizeable population of people below the age of 35. Having complete control of his brand and being creative in his messaging helps him connect with his customers.
Website & Online Ordering
Having a creative website with good quality food images and a strong price point works for Nikhil and Smally’s. It also helps him retain some of his delivery orders for which he depends on LimeTray. This helps him be more profitable given the high commission rates of third-party delivery apps. Using notifications and SMS to drive timely offers with good discounts have helped Smally’s do more business, even during low sales periods.
Having control of his brand, his own online platforms and the ability to send spontaneous discounts have helped him generate a lot of business for Smally’s.

POS and faster order processing
LimeTray has cut costs and saved manpower for Smally’s by reducing their order processing time. Tableside ordering reduces the time it takes to capture the order. And LimeTray’s POS helps to get the KOT out quicker. Overall, Smally’s has been serving food faster with LimeTray’s POS.
