FT991A (C-U) CW Frequency Pitch Offset Demo How Radio Manages TX Frequency shifts for CW vs. USB VFO

The FT991A CW Frequency combines the Pitch Offset against a RX Frequency in USB. The radio takes the frequency in USB and when you switch to CW mode it adds the frequency of the Pitch or side tone. This is exactly where your radio is transmitting in CW and it is reference to a RX Frequency that acts as a BFO Beat Frequency Oscillator providing the tone that the other station hears.

In the example I have the FT991A radio with a Pitch 700 Hz, when I switch from USB 28.049.30 to CW (C-U) the FT991A adds the Pitch frequency (700Hz) to the VFO 28.049.30 which is now a transmit frequency of 28.050.00, this is the Pitch carrier and is reference to the RX VFO 28.049.30 so this is how the tone is generated.
