A Simple Way to Improve Your Compositions

Simplifying the scene is one of the best ways to add impact to your images. When your scene is overly busy, it results in an image that's hard to look at and not as visually compelling.

Oftentimes, we get so focused on the subject of the scene that we forget to check the surroundings. Once you find your subject, always ask yourself if you are really in the best spot to photograph that particular subject, or could a slightly different angle work better in your favor?

In this instance, I wanted to remove all distracting elements around this tree. I originally started off shooting closer to the tree when I realized that the background red rock ended short of the top of my frame on the top right corner. Upon backing up, I was able to fill that gap, helping to simplify the scene and removing distractions to keep my viewers focused on the main subject.
