Small Garden August - slugs and blight and replanting, interplanting
We had good rains this summer - but they caused some problems! Slugs and snails increased dramatically in number, and they devoured new plantings.
Tomatoes suffered from late blight, and I show the results, including blight resistant varieties.

This is Somerset in the UK. Climate zone 8 with winters mostly above freezing, damp air and often quite cloudy. Summer afternoons low twenties C /low seventies F, on a good day!
See how it looked so different, just two months ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwDMFUxWrjs.
So far in 2021, to end August, this garden has given 61kg / 134lb of kitchen-ready vegetables.
My latest blog of 28th August has up to date advice for the garden https://charlesdowding.co.uk/september-2021-pests-trials-progress-propagation-planting-out-tomato-cucumber-bindweed/
Edward my son filmed this in mid August at the low point of small garden's summer, in terms of planting. I never had the garden so empty, apart from in late winter.
Since the video we have made plantings, and I'm happy with how it's filling up with new growth!

The garden is three beds with no sides, for easy maintenance. Normally there arefew slugs and few weeds. This allows time to care for the 10-12 different vegetables, also herbs and flowers.
