Prince's Estate Just Released A Song That's Been Locked In A Vault For 35 Years 💜🎵😢

Ten years ago, on April 21, 2016, the world lost one of the greatest musicians who ever lived. And yesterday, his estate gave us an extraordinary gift.
NPG Records, in partnership with Legacy Recordings, released "With This Tear" — a previously unheard studio recording from Prince's legendary vault — on the 10th anniversary of his passing. Recorded in November 1991 at Paisley Park, Prince served as producer, arranger, composer, and sole instrumentalist on the track, consistent with his lifelong insistence on total artistic control.
Prince originally recorded the song and then handed it off to Céline Dion, who released her own version in 1992. Fans have known the song through Dion for more than three decades. Now, for the first time, they can hear Prince's original take — quieter, more intimate, and unmistakably his.
This track is the first of many unreleased Prince recordings scheduled for release this year, as part of a never-before-released album project. The vault has been systematically explored since the estate stabilized — and what has emerged has consistently surprised listeners, because the range of what Prince recorded was wider than his public catalog ever suggested.
Fans traveled from the Netherlands, Australia, and across the United States to gather at Paisley Park on the anniversary. A candle lighting ceremony was held at exactly 4:21 p.m. — a tribute both to the date and to the man — and was livestreamed for fans who could not attend in person.
As Prince's longtime attorney and business partner L. Londell McMillan said: "Hopefully we can move from a place of just being sad that he's not here, to feeling grateful that he was here during our time, and we got a chance to witness his talents and his magic."
In June, Paisley Park will host Celebration 2026 — the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Life — with performances from Chaka Khan, Morris Day, Miguel, Bilal, Tevin Campbell, and Sounds of Blackness. Art Threat 💜
