Gate of Saint-Denis
In 1672 a triumphal arch was erected on the royal road leading from the church of Saint-Denis to the Louvre. The monument was built to commemorate the victories of the army of Louis XIV in the famous battles on the Rhine and were significant for the state.
Montmartre
Initially, the name Montmartre was given to a 130-metre hill, on which, in antiquity, the temple of the ancient Roman god of war Mars was located. Some historians believe that the origin of the word is associated with this deity.
