Allman Brothers -- KIND OF BIRD -- Live **4K** with Guest: Danny Louis

Here is a real gem, a live version of the very jazzy KIND OF BIRD written by Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes as a tribute to Charlie Parker a.k.a. “Bird.” This version is particularly tasty thanks to Danny Louis sitting in on organ.

Danny Louis is an interesting musician, musically gifted as a child he became an exceptional trumpet player early on. He went on to study composition and arrangement at the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a minor in trumpet. Sadly his career as a trumpeter ended abruptly when he was struck with partial facial paralysis caused by Bells Palsy.

Undeterred, Danny became a multi-instrumentalist, but began to focus on keyboards. In the 90s met and collaborated with Warren Haynes, toured with him, and later became part of Gregg Allman’s band.

I love the way this clip opens with a solitary Oteil on bass giving the crowd a taste of what is to come. As always Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, and Oteil Burbridge shine, as does Danny Louis.
