Concept of BGP ORIGIN Attribute | OSPF-BGP-MPLS From Scratch !!! | Concept Video-16

https://www.bridgewhy.com/ is the name of our website where you can find all of our courses.

This video talks about BGP Origin attribute that can be used to determine the best path during BGP path selection algorithm. In BGP routing, the Origin attribute is used to determine the best path to a destination based on the level of trust in the route. The Origin attribute specifies the source of the route advertisement and is used to determine the level of trust in the route. There are three possible values for the Origin attribute:

1. IGP: Indicates that the route was originated within the AS where it was learned. This is the most trusted origin, as it suggests that the route is stable and reliable.
2. EGP: Indicates that the route was learned from an External Gateway Protocol (EGP) such as the Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP). This is less trusted than an IGP origin, as it suggests that the route may be less stable.
3. Incomplete: Indicates that the route is missing information and is not fully trustworthy. This value is used when the route has been aggregated or summarized, and the full path is not known.

There are several ways that the Origin attribute can be used in BGP routing:

1. Preferring routes with an IGP origin: In general, routes with an IGP origin (indicating that the route was originated within the AS where it was learned) are preferred over routes with an EGP origin (indicating that the route was learned from an External Gateway Protocol) or an Incomplete origin (indicating that the route is missing information).
2. Implementing traffic engineering policies: The Origin attribute can be used to implement traffic engineering policies by preferentially routing traffic over certain paths based on the origin of the route.
3. Blocking specific routes: The Origin attribute can be used to block specific routes by rejecting routes with an EGP or Incomplete origin.
To use the Origin attribute in BGP routing, you will need to configure your BGP router to prefer routes with a certain origin or to block routes with a certain origin. This can be done using route filters or other BGP configuration options.
