This game is from a season I currently don’t and will likely not cover a lot in regards to the Lakers. However, it’s always fun to explore games that are a bit undervalued. Kobe’s full highlights from this matchup were not on YouTube. That’s what intrigued me initially. But ultimately this proved to be a Phoenix Suns gem. Upon realizing it was a high scoring 3pt super-show, I figured a great “duel” could be constructed between each squad’s two best performers.

The Suns set a franchise record with 22 made 3-pointers in this game. The mark still stands as their highest single game total.

Just weeks after being eliminated by the Lakers in the 2010 Western Conference Finals, the Phoenix Suns lost their 5x All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire to the New York Knicks. 2010-11’s team was able to keep the previous season’s core of perimeter guys (Nash, Richardson, Hill). New faces such as Hedo Türkoglu, Josh Childress and Hakim Warrick made their respective presences felt. After a subpar 12-13 start, the Suns made significant roster changes on December 18th by participating in a 6 player trade with the Magic that sent Richardson, Türkoglu and Earl Clark to Orlando for 34 year-old Vince Carter, Dwight Howard’s backup Marcin Gortat, and wingman Mickaël Piétrus. From January 12 - March 8, the Suns went 17-8. The massive deal with Orlando seemed to be working in ways they’d intended it to. However, with an overall record of 33-29, the Suns proceeded to lose 13 of their final 20 games after March 8th, finishing at 40-42 and missing the Playoffs for just the 4th time in the franchises’ previous 23 seasons. 2010-11 began the Phoenix Suns’ streak of Playoff absences. They have not played a postseason game since May 29, 2010.
