Hoagie Bun Recipe - You Haven't Had a Sandwich Till You Try This!!
Hoagie Buns / Rolls are the best, and you really are missing out until you try this fresh baked bread recipe with your next sandwich. Recently I was making some of my smoked pulled pork when I got the great idea to try and make my own homemade Hoagie Buns (some people call them rolls, but it really doesn't matter). I am really glad I took the time to try and make my own hoagie rolls because they are really delicious and well worth the time it takes to make them. Ingredients:
6 Cups - Flour
2 1/2 tsp - Active Dry Yeast
1 Tbsp - Sugar
1 1/2 tsp - Salt
1 Stick 8 Tbsp - Softened Butter
2 - Large Eggs
1 - Egg white mixed with 1 Tbsp water
1 Cup - Warm Milk (approx. 105-115°)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°
Activate yeast by adding both the yeast and sugar to the warm milk and set aside.
Mix together salt, eggs and butter in 2 cups of flour.
Add yeast mixture and mix, then add remaining flour and mix to form dough and knead for 6-8 minutes.
Form dough into a ball and place in a lightly greased bowl flipping once. Cover and then place bowl in a warm place for approx. 30 min. or until doubled.
Once doubled punch down dough and divide into 6 even portions, then form portions into hoagie shaped rolls. Cover and place in a warm place to double (approx. 20-30 min.)
Brush the top of rolls with egg wash (one egg white with 1 tbsp water)
Bake for 15-20 mins. until golden brown and then allow to cool on a wire rack.
