Seaming Knitting with the Bickford method

This video shows an alternative to the Mattress stitch for joining knitted material. Unlike the Mattress stitch, the Bickford stitch does not leave a lump on the back side of the joined pieces. Both the front and back are perfectly flat.

However, the front side is not as perfect a join as the Mattress stitch.

This method of seaming is suited for seaming socks, baby hats and anything else that may rub against the skin.
