Society is about to take a big step forward in how we understand bullying and abuse. We are on the cusp of a scientific revolution as significant as the one that taught us that smoking caused cancer. Just like the x-ray allowed us to non-invasively see cancerous tumours developing in our bodies, correlated with smoking, so too have brain scans now allowed us to see scars, abnormalities and deficits in the brains of those who suffered bullying and abuse. Jennifer Fraser has a PhD in Comparative Literature which has trained her to take different discourses and put them into dialogue. In her books and articles, she draws on critical theory, literature, and psychology as a way to better understand our world. More recently, she has been using neuroscientific insight into developing brains to advocate for children's rights to protection from all forms of abuse. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
