How We Can Transform Our Fear of Reptiles into Curiosity | Neftali Camacho | TEDxUCSD
In his talk, Neftali Camacho challenges our often fear-based perception of reptiles and explains the backstories of why many of us have negative associations with these animals. From the names humans have given reptiles to our portrayal of them in the media, Neftali pulls back the curtain, making us reevaluate respect for these creatures. Neftali's mission is to help us turn our fear into curiosity.
After receiving his B.S in Zoology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Neftali Camacho joined the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in 2002 as a curatorial assistant. In his early days, he worked with various collections which included marine invertebrates and later worked with the Ichthyology and herpetology collections. In 2010, he became Herpetology Collection Manager. From then on his true passion came through. He has always been fascinated with reptiles. From the Komodo dragon to the small California legless lizard, Neftali gets an immense sense of satisfaction knowing that the work he does will be useful for understanding such fascinating, but often a misunderstood group of animals. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
