When your picky child eats a food

Like this if your toddler has been through a food refusal phase or is a picky eater.

As a pediatrician and a mom to a toddler with another on the way, I have a “mealtime” monster who has his fair share of picky moments and food refusal. Sometimes refusing dinner for a week.

Picky Eating is not our fault as it’s developmentally common, BUT there are things we as caregivers can do to guide them to explore all while managing our expectations.

Things like:
➡️ Understanding why this happens so you don’t panic and create feeding/meal-time crutches
➡️ Celebrating small wins with your selective eater
➡️ Not calling them picky especially in front of them
➡️ Focusing on routine and NO pressure when approaching feeding
➡️ Bringing the social and FUN piece back to meal-time when you feel lost in the battles
➡️ Not throwing in the towel and giving up when it comes to your selective eater. BELIEVE in them.
