Match Fishing on the River Trent at Fiskerton

In this episode I get an invite as a guest, match fishing with the Trident AC club at Fiskerton on the River Trent.

With little knowledge of the venue and even less preparation for the fishing match I take several methods with me that i can try fishing including the stick float, blockend feeder, groundbait feeder, bolognese rod and heavy barbel rod.

I soon discover that depths along the match fishing length at Fiskerton on Trent vary significantly between 17ft and 3ft in the pegs/swims we were allocated. I draw a peg in the middle of the match length and a swim with approximately 10ft of powerful flowing, River Trent water.

After trying the blockend feeder fishing for dace and getting snagged, I try stick float fishing, for dace but something seems off and i therefore grab the plummet and am surprised at the depth in front of me and how quickly the river bed shelves off.

On a unsettled windy and at times wet day and with options to fish for a chub or barbel, I decide to pick up the bolo rod and go trotting for roach. Would this be the the right approach and pay dividends? Watch on to find out...
