THE MUSIC: This vocalise was penned in 1942 by Swiss composer Mathieu Vibert (1920 - 1987) and features coloratura soprano and bassoon soloists. Vibert was born in Carouge to the son of a lawyer turned police chief. He studied at the Geneva Conservatory of Music. Vibert married Magda Fonay, a Hungarian Jewish coloratura soprano and violinist, for whom he wrote this challenging piece, which takes the soprano to High F6. This performance, from a Swiss radio transcription, involves the Orchestre du Studio de Genève conducted by Jean-Marie Auberson.
