Glass Shatterers! Adrienne Miglietti - Vibert: Chant de la nuit (vocalise), Swiss radio, High F

~The "Glass Shatterers!" series focuses on sopranos who sustain High F, or sing higher.

THE SONGBIRD: Adrienne Miglietti (1918 - 2013) was a Swiss coloratura soprano born to an Italian family in Geneva. She studied with Anna-Maria Guglielmetti among others, making her debut In 1948 and singing until 1970. She lived in Geneva and sang most regularly there -- and also appeared in the opera houses of Lausanne, Zurich, Basel, Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Rouen, Strasbourg, Lille, Liege, Cologne, and Bonn, as well as Tunis and Algiers. Roles included Queen of the Night, Zerlina, Konstanze, Norina, Adina, Lucia, Rosina, Gluck's Amor, Gilda, Violetta, Olympia, Philine, Lakmé, Ophelia, and Sophie.

THE MUSIC: This vocalise was penned in 1942 by Swiss composer Mathieu Vibert (1920 - 1987) and features coloratura soprano and bassoon soloists. Vibert was born in Carouge to the son of a lawyer turned police chief. He studied at the Geneva Conservatory of Music. Vibert married Magda Fonay, a Hungarian Jewish coloratura soprano and violinist, for whom he wrote this challenging piece, which takes the soprano to High F6. This performance, from a Swiss radio transcription, involves the Orchestre du Studio de Genève conducted by Jean-Marie Auberson.
