I present here is an album of convicts and buildings at the Akatui Prison. The prison was located at the Akatui silver mine in Nerchinsk district in the Transbaikal region of Siberia, 625 km from Chita.

At the beginning of its existence, the reason for imprisonment in Akatui prison was repeated crimes by convicts and exiles (mainly murders, but also robberies, banditry, counterfeiting). Of the political prisoners in the 19th century, the Decembrist M. S. Lunin was held in the Akatui prison, the participants in the Polish uprisings of 1830–31 and 1863–64, and in the 1870s - 1880s - the Narodniks.
From 1906, participants in the revolution of 1905 were sent here, including sailors, M. Spiridonov and I. F. Golovanov, the Menshevik deputy in the 2nd Duma..

In 1889, new buildings designed for 104 prisoners were built. .In fact, their number was higher, for example, in 1909, 225 people were kept in prison. After the closure of the Kari penal servitude in 1890, 110 prisoners were transferred to Akatui. Akatui prison became the main political penal servitude.

This album belonged to Isaiah Aronovich Shinkman, a physician and member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, who was incarcerated at Akatui from 1906 to 1911.

In 1911, the prison was used as a women's penal prison. Fanny Kaplan was incarcerated here until here release on March 3, 1917 by the Provisional Government.
