“Where do children and families go?”: Humanitarian crisis in Gaza has NGO's frustrated

Officials from the United Nations (UN), World Health Organization (WHO) and Red Cross aired their frustrations about the worsening humanitarian crisis facing Gazans amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict on Tuesday.

To date, more than 19,000 Palestinians have died and over 52,000 injured since Israel began its war on Hamas two months ago — triggered by the unprecedented killing of 1,200 Israelis by Hamas on Oct. 7.

U.N. Children’s Agency spokesperson James Elder said he was “furious” that the approximately 7,000 children killed in the onslaught are “becoming statistics and not stories” at this point.

“Where do children and families go?” Elder queried. “They're not safe in hospitals, they're not safe in shelters, and they're certainly not safe in so-called safe zones.”

In the last few weeks, Israel has faced intensifying pressures to commit to a ceasefire in Gaza and stop the violence.
