Visiting the Highlands of Navosa - Matokana Village

On Saturday April 28, 2018, The Fiji Times Senior Feature Writer Sikeli Qounadovu embarked on a journey to Matokana Village deep in the highlands of Navosa, to personally experience the challenges of the people of this village - probably the most remote and isolated in Fiji’s mainland Viti Levu – to be able to tell their story.

Special acknowledgement to
Master Simeli Druavesi, the Head Teacher of Vakacereivalu Primary School, his two sons Atu, 10, and Epi, 7, and also to the villagers of Matokana for accepting the team from this newspaper.

The Fiji Times also would like to acknowledge the Fiji Roads Authority, that ever since the first story was published on May 8, 2018, road upgrading works have now begun in that village.
