The Paracaratherium

Paracaratherium is, unfortunately, a now-extinct species of harness rhinoceros. They are one of the largest mammals to ever have existed. These guys stand at a whopping 7 feet tall. Yes, that makes them taller than giraffes. Their weight comes in between 33 and 44 thousand pounds. Making them multiple times as heavy as the biggest elephants we've seen. However, similar to elephants, they consume a plant-based diet.

For this reason, they have not been a threat to other animals or humans. Being as big as they are they must've been pretty overwhelming to look at. Their size did have some benefits, it scared off predators. Sadly, these guys went extinct when the land and climate in Central Asia began changing, making it impossible for them to survive. It would have been pretty interesting to see one of these big friendly giants in the flesh

The Whale Shark

This animal is one of the biggest sea creatures ever. It is the largest recorded species of fish. The biggest size seen on one of these is about 62 feet long. On average they grow to about 40 feet. They are actually sharks, however, they feed like whales more than like sharks. They are also closer to whales in size than they are to sharks. They weigh about 41 thousand pounds, which is the equivalent of a school bus.

Each whale shark has its own genetic pattern of spots and marks, much like humans have birthmarks. Their mouths are about 5 feet wide and up to 300 teeth in their mouth, which is strange, considering that they are filter feeders and don't use teeth. Some of these large creatures have been found near the coast of New York. But they're mostly found in the Pacific and Indian oceans.
